It presents it's own set of problems as Audirvana users have experienced.Ĭore Audio is Apple's software framework (architecture) designed to handle the low level programming needs for the software developer's application. No other player that I am aware of has this "Direct Mode", and for good reason. But Audirvana's "Direct Mode" is unnecessary and of questionable value. Software developers please feel free to elaborate or make corrections.Īudirvana "Direct Mode" claims to fully bypass Apple's Core Audio, supposedly for improved sound quality. Here's my high level take on Audirvana "Direct Mode" as a non-programmer.

RE: Mac OS High Sierra and USB audio?, posted on Januat 06:56:56 APFS is optimized for SSD/Flash disks but is still going through first release growing pains so I would avoid it for a while if you can. If you are using an old-school spinning disk as your boot device, you can still use HFS+.
#AUDIRVANA PLUS SAME OUTPUT UPGRADE#
If you are running a solid-state disk (SSD) or flash based disk, the upgrade will force you to use APFS.

The "High Sierra" release includes the completely new APFS filesystem replacing HFS+. One word of caution if you upgrade to "High Sierra". The PS Audio and Wyred4Sound are XMOS based. I tried: PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC, Apogee Groove DAC, and the Wyred4Sound uLink USB-to-SPDIF converter.

I tried a couple USB DACs on my wife's MacBook Pro running the latest 10.13.2 "High Sierra" with no issues but that was hardly an extensive test with only two DACs (plus a USB to SPDIF converter). Prior to that I was running "Mavericks" with no issues.

Why are you planning to upgrade? Do you use your Mac for other things besides audio? My Mac Mini music server is still on Mac OS X 10.11.6 "El Capitan". However, I doubt that there were actual improvements in USB audio over older Mac OS X (just improvements over "Sierra" which had problems, is my take on it). MacOS "Sierra" had some well publicized USB audio issues with some devices (stuttering) that have been fixed in "High Sierra". "anyone upgraded to last High Sierra (10.13.2) and checked the USB output for audio? the Apple people say that output has improved compatibility for audio purposes should i trust them?" I'm using 10.13.2 (the current version), posted on Januat 01:20:34 RE: Mac OS High Sierra and USB audio? - paco 07:38:27 01/15/18 RE: Mac OS High Sierra and USB audio? - AbeCollins 06:32:41 01/15/18 I haven't noticed any differences, either NT - Frihed89 23:52:24 01/15/18 RE: Mac OS High Sierra and USB audio? - bullethead 06:56:56 01/15/18 RE: Don't confuse "Direct Mode" with "Exclusive Mode".
